If the most famous museums in Paris are generally closely related to art (Louvre, Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo), the Palais de la Découverte is related to science...or more precisely to universcience. It is located in the west wing of the Grand Palais (its total area is 25,000 square metres) and its entrance is from Franklin D. Rossevelt Avenue. It dates from 1934; when it was originally planned for the 1937 Universal Exhibition. Today, it welcomes around 600,000 visitors a year.

Its themes? A bit of all areas of science: astronomy, chemistry, biology, maths, computer science, geology...The whole thing is spread over two levels. For the time you're there, admire the dome of the Antin Hall, designed by the architect Charles Girault - just like the building housing the museum.

If you are in the Palais de la Découverte for the first time, you will probably want to take the opportunity to admire the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais, and perhaps take a walk on the Esplanade des Invalides next door. You will also be near the Champs-Élysées: convenient for tourists who will not have to leave the 8th arrondissement. But, if you have to go elsewhere, you'll be right next to the Champ-Élysées Clémenceau metro station; so that you will not have to walk far. Even if Paris may seem small...it´s small but congested: so do not forget to book your car park! ;)
