The Galerie des Gobelins building was built at the beginning of the 20th century to group together the three national factories : the Manufacture des Gobelins is a famous producer of tapestries and dyed products. Today, tapestries used to decorate public buildings are still manufactured here. The Manufacture de Beauvais, which arrived on the Gobelins site in Paris in 1940 after the bombing of the factories in its home town of Beauvais. And the Manufacture de la Savonnerie, a carpet factory to which we owe all of the carpets in the Louvre’s Grande Galerie. The site also houses the Galerie des Gobelins which was reopened to the public in 2007, and proposes numerous exhibitions.
Closed since 1972, the Galerie des Gobelins, which is dependent on the Mobilier National and National Workshops department, was reopened to the general public in 2007. Are you looking to visit the Manufactures Nationales des Gobelins, de Beauvais and de la Savonnerie and/or one of temporary exhibitions in the Galerie des Gobelins ?
