Look for parking in Arc de Triomphe

Formerly known as the Place de l’Etoile, this is the place to find one of Paris’ most iconic monuments - the Arc de Triomph 

But what does this also tell you? Central Paris, where parking can be a nightmare. Public parking in Paris is limited to just 2 hours, and of course, it ain’t free! So it really just doesn’t give you enough time in the city, before you have to go back to your car, and start the quest for another parking space all over again… But there is a solution! After leaving your car in a secure car park in Paris, you’re ready to walk to the magnificent arch. Be careful, though! The Arc de Triomphe is located right in the center of a gigantic roundabout comprised of 12 avenues spreading out in all directions. If you value your life, you should use the pedestrian underpass to get to the arch! It takes you directly to the center of the square.

It’s where 12 streets meet around the spectacular Arc de Triomphe. It really is a sight to behold. Wander around one of Paris’ most iconic sights, designed by architect Jean-François Chalgrin, it was commissioned by Napoleon to commemorate French military victories, but he died before its completion. It was inaugurated by King Louis-Phillippe in 1805.

Climb up the spiral staircase to the spectacular panoramic terrace, where you can see some of Paris’ other sights - the Eiffel Tower, the Tour Montparnasse as well as the Champs-Elysées, as well as watch all the cars below your feet zipping around the round-a-bout, which is oddly entertaining! You can go up during the day time or night time, subject to opening hours, with both times giving you something different; a magical Parisian day or see the City of Love shine at night. 

On site you will find leaflets available in numerous languages, as well as gift and book shop. 

This monument is also the burial site of The Unknown Soldier from the First World War, and hosts a fire which is relit every night at 6:30 pm. 

An idea for a great day would be walking down the Champs-Elysées, which has the Arc de Triomph at one side, to the beautiful Jardins des Tuileries to the other. Seeing the beautiful displays in each shop window! 

Thanks to it’s location at the centre of 12 different roads, it’s easy to get to by public transport - it’s quite literally surrounded by metro stops: Argentine (line 1), George V (line 1) and the Kléber (line 6).
