Apart from being listed as a historical monument, the Paris Gare de Lyon station is also one of the most beautiful railway stations in Paris.

  • Go to the Gare de Lyon Paris station on Velib’ bicycle: There are Velib' stations on Louis Armand Square, on Rue de Van Gogh, on Rue de Chalon, and on Rue Roland Barthes

How to get to other stations in Paris from Paris Gare de Lyon station

If your trip doesn’t end at this station, here’s how to get to the other major Paris stations by public transport:

  • Going to Austerlitz station from Gare de Lyon: You can take one of the buses that connect both stations or walk across the Seine (about 7 minutes on foot). 
  • Going to Gare du Nord station from Gare de Lyon: With the RER D train, you can reach Gare du Nord station in 10 minutes.
  • Going to Saint-Lazare ​station from Gare de Lyon: Take metro line 14 or RER A, both options will get you there in 15 minutes.
  • Go to Gare de l’Est station from Gare de Lyon: You can take the RER D train and be there in 15 minutes, or, if you’re in a bit of a hurry, you can take the RER A train to Châtelet les Halles, where you can change and take the line 4 metro. This way usually takes about 10 minutes. 
  • Go to the Montparnasse station from Gare de Lyon: Take metro line 14 and then change to metro line 6 at Bercy. You can also take bus line 91; it's a little longer but you don’t have to change lines.
  • Go to Marne-la-Vallée station from Gare de Lyon: Allow 40 minutes to get there on the RER A train. 
  • Go to the Massy TGV train station from Gare de Lyon: Take the RER A train or RER D train to Châtelet les Halles and then take the RER B train. The whole journey takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

Going to the Paris airports from Gare de Lyon

If you plan on going to the airport from Gare de Lyon, you have several options depending on your final destination:

  • To get to Roissy - Charles de Gaulle Airport from Gare de Lyon: Take shuttle bus #4, which connects Gare de Lyon to CDG Airport.
  • To get to Orly Airport from Gare de Lyon: Cross the Seine to get to Austerlitz station, about a 7 minute walk or quick bus ride. Then take the RER C train to the airport. 

What to do at Paris Gare Lyon

Gare de Lyon, 12th district of Paris

It’s the third-largest station in Paris for the number of annual passengers, and it makes sense since this station in the 12th district is extremely convenient for reaching all parts of Paris by public transportation, and even the south of France.

As we previously mentioned, you could see a concert at AccorHotels Arena, but there’s much more to see and do around Gare de Lyon!

You can go to the Fashion and Design building (Cité de la Mode et du Design), which is a 15 minute walk from the station and next to the National Library of France, Bibliothèque François Mitterrand.

What to do while you wait for your train at Gare de Lyon

Like most major railway stations in France, you have plenty of activities at your disposal while you wait at Gare de Lyon station.

Of course, you can go shopping inside the station; we’re sure you can find a reason or two to go. ;)

Have you thought about having a bite to eat? There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and cafes to choose from.

Like to read while you have your coffee? Three are several news shops and bookshops in Gare de Lyon. You can even find one specifically for short stories in Halls 1 and 3.

If you’re a music lover, you should know there are pianos in Halls 1 and 2 that passengers are free to use. Play yourself or simply enjoy other travelers’ music.

Need to keep the kids entertained? There’s a children’s area set up in Hall 2, complete with foosball.
